The Brighter Side of Darkness
Under a stone, wet with mildew,
An essence is found, slick black in the mud.
Our souls slowly emerge from their shallow hiding,
At first timid of the world, they shrink back from the sun.
As pupils adjust a strong stance is found.
Slick rays of light harden to their exterior,
But their gut still bleeds, no longer shadowed from pain.
The blood mingling boils hate,
Screaming of malice, twisted face.
Together they find, hearts beat in time,
A softening ointment to the blistering sting,
When together they scream, they can finally sing.
Through their malice and hate, loving embrace.
Community found, helped kick down,
Shadowed light on a darkened path
